Preventive Dentistry in SC

The prevention of dental caries is arguably more valuable than treating them. At Easley Family Dentistry in Easley, SC, this is something we wholeheartedly believe in. Fixing damage to teeth is something we can do, but a damaged tooth will never be the same.

At Easley Family Dentistry in Easley, SC, it’s our priority to keep your natural teeth healthy. Why is this important? The answer is that there’s nothing as great as natural teeth. Yes, we have great restorative treatments like dental implants right now. Unfortunately, our natural teeth are still the best and are considered better than anything else.

Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride treatments are some of the most commonly performed preventive procedures. They’re also quite easy and aren’t expensive. They’re mostly recommended for children since they’re at an increased risk of suffering from dental caries and cavities.

There’s a huge difference between the amount of fluoride you get from toothpaste and that you get from fluoride treatments. Fluoride treatments provide much higher concentrations of fluoride compared to toothpaste.

The value of fluoride is in its ability to strengthen teeth and halt tooth decay. Unfortunately, tooth decay isn’t reversible, but fluoride can stop it in its tracks. We would apply heavily concentrated fluoride to your teeth or your child’s teeth for a few minutes to allow maximum absorption.

Dental Sealants

At Easley Family Dentistry, we can apply a dental sealant to your child’s tooth. Sealants are used to fill up tiny grooves that are naturally present on the back teeth. These grooves aren’t due to disease. They’re normally there, but they can cause problems.

These grooves can be hard to reach with a toothbrush and toothpaste. Bacteria can use them as hiding spots to multiply and ultimately lead to decay and other problems. The purpose of sealants is to keep these grooves sealed and prevent bacteria from hiding in them.

Adults can get dental sealants, but they’re most commonly recommended for children. Insurance plans usually include fluoride treatments and dental sealants for children, but adults might need to pay out of pocket. To find out whether or not you’re covered for these procedures, give us a call.
